A EACOP Ltd alcançou outro marco importante na fase de construção do Projecto do Oleoduto de Petróleo Bruto da África Oriental (Projecto EACOP) ao oficializar a inauguração da Planta de Isolamento Térmico (Planta TIS) construída e operada por um dos Empreiteiros de Nível Um da EACOP Ltd, WASCO ISOAF que é uma joint venture de empresas locais e estrangeiras. A fábrica da TIS recebe todos os tubos para utilização na Tanzânia e no Uganda. A fábrica da TIS aplicará isolamento térmico a todas as juntas de tubos de 86.000 linhas antes do seu envio e instalação ao longo da rota do Uganda à Tanzânia. A finalidade do isolamento é semelhante à de uma garrafa térmica – retém o calor do fluido dentro do tubo e, ao mesmo tempo, mantém o ambiente externo fresco.
Simultaneamente ao evento de inauguração, ocorreu a assinatura oficial de acordos de arrendamento de terras entre o Oleoduto de Petróleo Bruto da África Oriental (EACOP) e a Corporação de Desenvolvimento Petrolífero da Tanzânia (TPDC). Isto segue a conclusão do processo de aquisição e compensação de terras. O arrendamento de terrenos e a produção de tubos com isolamento térmico são dois precursores importantes para as atividades de construção iniciadas ao longo da faixa de servidão.
A inauguração foi agraciada por estimados dignitários, incluindo o Exmo. Doto Mashaka Biteko (MP), Vice-Primeiro Ministro e Ministro da Energia, República Unida da Tanzânia, que oficializou o evento juntamente com Ruth Nankabirwa, Ministra da Energia e Desenvolvimento Mineral, Uganda, Gestão da EACOP, Empreiteiros, juntamente com outros convidados ilustres, como Ministros , Membros do Parlamento, Altos Comissários, Secretários Permanentes e outros funcionários governamentais do Uganda e da Tanzânia.
Após um período de expansão, a oficina contará com uma impressionante capacidade de produção de 110-117 quilômetros de tubos isolados por mês. A produção está programada para começar imediatamente e continuar até 2025.
A implantação desta Fábrica não significa apenas avanço tecnológico, mas também cria inúmeras oportunidades de emprego na região. Durante a fase de construção, foram empregados um total de 500 funcionários no local. Durante a fase de produção, 270 trabalhadores estarão envolvidos em atividades de linha de frente no local, incluindo a gestão das linhas de produção de isolamento térmico, manuseio de tubos, logística, manutenção e inspeção. O restante pessoal está envolvido no apoio a atividades que abrangem diversas áreas, como alimentação, operação de acampamento, segurança e administração.
