O presidente da SONATRACH, Toufik Hakkar, e o CEO da Eni, Claudio Descalzi, assinaram um Memorando de Entendimento (MoU) em Roma com o objetivo de acelerar o desenvolvimento de campos de gás na Argélia e a descarbonização via hidrogênio verde .

A cerimônia de assinatura foi testemunhada pelo presidente da República Popular Democrática da Argélia, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, e pelo primeiro-ministro italiano, Mario Draghi, durante uma visita de Estado a Roma. O memorando de entendimento de representa mais um passo no reforço da cooperação energética entre a Itália e a Argélia e está em linha com a estratégia da Eni de diversificar as fontes de energia com foco na descarbonização.

Mais detalhadamente, o Memorando de Entendimento permitirá à SONATRACH e à Eni avaliar o potencial do gás e as oportunidades de desenvolvimento acelerado em campos específicos já descobertos pela SONATRACH na Argélia. Os volumes de produção de gás previstos nas áreas abrangidas pelo acordo equivalem a aproximadamente 3 bilhões de metros cúbicos por ano e contribuirão para aumentar a capacidade de exportação da Argélia para a Itália através do gasoduto Transmed.

O Memorando também abrange a avaliação técnica e econômica de um projeto piloto de hidrogênio verde em Bir Rebaa North (BRN) no deserto da Argélia, com o objetivo de apoiar a descarbonização da planta de gás BRN operada pela JV SONATRACH-Eni GSE.
